The pair in every pack
Wizards has said every Play Booster and Collector Booster contains an echoed pair: one card from the Multiverse you know, one from Jace’s reconstruction, often the same character living two lives, with art that can form a panorama. Fifteen of those pairs also get borderless treatments.
That is a catalog problem. Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Chandra, Chill of Compliance are not the same card. Ajani Resolute and Ajani Unrelenting are not the same card. If your scanner or a seller listing collapses them to “Chandra,” you will save the wrong printing.
What the set is mechanically
Empower Jace creates (or grows) a Jace planeswalker token — a way to put a walker on the table without opening the mythic. Prepare returns from Secrets of Strixhaven. The marquee Commander product is a four-color deck led by Jace.
Serialized and Special Guests cards, when they appear, are their own printings. Do not file a serialized copy as the ordinary rare.
What to buy, depending on the binder
Prerelease kit
Sealed for the event, then a dated stamp on the promo. Catalog prerelease promos as promos.
Play Boosters / Draft Night
The pair-in-every-pack experience. Right if you want to play the format and still hit Echoverse pairs.
Collector Boosters
Where borderless pairs, foils, and serialized treatments concentrate. Buy these for treatments, then catalog each treatment separately.
Commander deck
A complete deck with new cards that may not all be in Play Boosters. New Commander-only cards are their own set code (FRC).
